Sindh Launches E-Sports Championship 2026 with Rs. 3 Million Prize Pool
A Major Step for Competitive Gaming in Sindh
The Sindh government has officially launched the Sindh E-Sports Championship 2026, with more than 1,000 teams set to compete for a total prize pool of Rs. 3 million. The initiative marks a significant move by the provincial government to formally recognise and support competitive gaming as a legitimate sporting discipline alongside traditional sports.
Second Edition Inaugurated at Liaquat Library
The second edition of the championship was inaugurated at a ceremony held at Liaquat Library. The choice of a public cultural venue for the launch reflects the government’s intent to position e-sports as a mainstream activity accessible to a broad cross-section of young people across the province.
Games Featured and Competition Format
The competition will feature popular titles including PUBG Mobile, Tekken 8, and FC 27. Qualifying rounds will be held at various universities, while the semi-finals will take place at prominent shopping malls in Karachi. The grand final is scheduled to be held at the Expo Centre Karachi in the first week of October. The multi-venue format is designed to maximise reach and participation across different segments of the youth population.
Senior Officials Attend the Opening
Sindh Local Government Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah and Sindh Sports Secretary Munawar Ali Mahesar attended the opening ceremony as chief guests. The presence of senior provincial officials at the launch signals that the government views the championship as part of a broader and sustained commitment to youth development through sport.
Recognition for Athletes at the Ceremony
During the event, shields were also presented to 24 boxers, ju-jitsu athletes, and coaches who had delivered notable performances at national-level championships. The recognition of traditional sports athletes alongside the e-sports launch reinforced the message that the provincial government is pursuing a comprehensive approach to sporting development rather than focusing exclusively on any single discipline.
Government’s Vision for Youth and Technology
Speaking at the ceremony, Syed Nasir Hussain Shah described the E-Sports Championship as an important platform for young people to showcase their abilities under the “The Next Era of Champions” initiative, adding that the provincial government was creating opportunities for young people not only in traditional sports but also in technology and e-sports. The minister also noted that initiatives were being taken to identify and support talent at the grassroots level, with the championship serving as one of the key instruments through which that objective would be pursued.
